Critical Investigation tutorial - 23.11.16

·         Notes & Quotes document a little over 4,000 – just short of the latest 4,500 requirement but still looking pretty impressive. In terms of what you’ve got so far, good to see a selection of documentaries and video texts and lots in terms of Media Magazine. There’s also some stuff from academic journal articles on the M: drive which is positive – that’s the area we need to further develop though.
·         Textual Analysis – this was Task #1 and was due last week. You’ve got something for this but in my view not nearly enough. Most importantly, pick two key scenes from the film (not the trailer) and write an incredibly detailed close-textual analysis of the clips. Think Film Language and MIGRAIN from Year 12 as well as your main issue – representation of youth.
·         Task #2 is academic research and bibliography. We’ll focus on academic research in a moment but you need to show evidence of your bibliography in your N&Q document. EVERYTHING needs to go in there regardless of whether you end up quoting it in the essay. If you’ve read it or watched it – put it in the bibliography. One request: please export your bibliography and post it to your blog next time you do this.
·         In terms of academic research, you will hopefully get some excellent stuff from the BFI trip next week but I’m pretty sure we’ll have some useful reading in DF07. For the BFI trip, look for Hebdige and subculture – this should have good links to youth. I’m also confident there will be stuff on the Breakfast Club but we may need to ask them on the day as it’s not in your actual question.
·         In terms of the essay question, we may need to develop this somewhat (perhaps with something about audience effects?) but it is solid for the moment and fine for the BFI trip.
·         I’m sure there will be some stuff on Google Scholar and in the books in DF07 – leave this with me and I’ll email over anything I can find later.
·         Last week’s task is historical text analysis – Breakfast Club is a brilliant choice and should open up some more research possibilities too.
·         Media Edu and Jump Cut will definitely be worth looking at: e.g. http://www.ejumpcut.org/archive/jc56.2014-2015/PalmerAttackBlock/2.html
·         Task #1-3 – make sure you start/develop these to move the word count up to and beyond 4,500. New task is essay plan that you can work on over the next week or so.
·         LR: Copy this into a new blog post called ‘Critical Investigation tutorial’ and write the next three steps in your research below my feedback.
